Airbnb and Airbnb.org announced on August 24 that they will provide free accommodation to 20,000 Afghan refugees across the world. This temporary accommodation is part of the online home renting platform’s “Frontline stays” program for accommodating first responders. Since January 2021, around 2,70,000 Afghans have been displaced and this number has drastically increased since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. Airbnb’s non-profit organisation have announced their support to temporarily house 20,000 Afghan refugees across the world.

Airbnb Founder and CEO Brian Chesky announced in a series of tweets that there was no time to waste. He stated that if anyone was willing to host a refugee family, Airbnb can connect them to the right person. One of his tweets states that the Afghan refugee crisis is one of the biggest humanitarian crises currently. And Airbnb feels a responsibility to step up during this dire time. To help Afghan refugees in need, Airbnb has announced free housing for them in any of the Airbnb properties across the world. Temporary housing will be provided to 20,000 Afghan refugees.

Airbnb Will Pay Hosts Willing To House Afghan Refugees
However, this is dependent on Airbnb’s existing hosts, if they agree to help out with the initiative. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky in a tweet thread announced the plan to call out Airbnb hosts interested in housing Afghan families. For hosts participating in the initiative, Airbnb and Airbnb.org will pay for the housing. While Airbnb didn’t reveal a specific timeline for the length of this programme, the company told The Verge that they were planning to support 20,000 refugees for as long as needed.
