At This Railway Station In Telangana, People Buy Tickets But Never Board Trains; But Why?

There is a railway station in Telangana where around 60 tickets are sold everyday but no one boards the train. Wondering why? Well, the residents are simply buying these tickets to keep the railway station running. This is the case of Nekonda Railway Station where local residents buy around 60 tickets everyday to generate income at the railway station for three months. This will ensure that there are train halts from important cities like Tirupati, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Shirdi at this station in the future. Read on to know the complete story.

The Curious Case Of Nekonda Railway Station

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) shared by Sudhakar Udumula, there is a railway station in India, where people purchase tickets but don’t board the train. This is the case of Nekonda Railway Station in Telangana where more than 60 tickets are bought every day, although, no one actually boards the train. To give you a little background, Nekonda is the only stop for Narsampet Constituency in Telangana’s Warangal District. However, trains from cities like Tirupati, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Shirdi don’t halt at this station. This causes problems for the local residents who wish to travel on this route. Furthermore, as per the post on X (formerly Twitter), halts for the return journey of the Padmavati Express too were cancelled. This only made this situation worse.

Recently, after a lot of requests by the people in the area, the Indian Railways temporarily gave a green flag for intercity express from Secunderabad to Guntur to make a stop at this station. They, however, put forward a condition to make this arrangement. They have, reportedly, promised complete halting at the station only if the station receives income for three months. If this condition is not met, they have decided to cancel the halt altogether.

To make sure this condition is met, the residents created a WhatsApp group called ‘Nekonda Town Railway Tickets Forum’ and collected ₹25,000 through donations. From the money, they buy daily train tickets from Nekonda to Khammam, Secunderabad, etc and show income at the station. These small steps will help them compel the authorities to have more trains stop at the station.
