The owner of NAYAN XI, a water taxi, shares his vision of this new route and his plans to expand the service.
Water Taxi: New Way To Travel In Mumbai
The director of Nayantara Shipping Pvt Ltd, Captain Rohit Sinha, has shared his innovation— a water taxi— a comfortable, air-conditioned, and unique way to travel from Belapur to Gateway Of India, Mumbai. This service is exclusively for office goers as it is available only on weekdays. There are five main stops, including Ulwe, Seawoods, Nerul, and Kharghar. These will also have the same service.
While comparing the cost and time taken for this commute, the average cost of a taxi is somewhere around ₹600 to ₹800. Moreover, it takes over an hour to reach Fort, by road. Whereas, this water taxi will help you to reach the destination within an hour, and the cost is ₹300. A comfortable ride is what we are looking for in Mumbai. Further, the service will start in the middle of next week.
The objective is to start a water taxi from South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. To achieve this, all necessary documents and permissions are taken care of. Office goers and daily commuters will get a 20 per cent discount on the regular fares for the monthly pass. But, it will consist of 21 or 22 instead of the 30 to 31 days.
Other Commute Routes
The company has other commute routes from Bhaucha Dhakka(Domestic Crise Terminal) to Mandwa on the weekends. This route has minimal footfall. The typical route is from Gateway Of India to Mandwa. Therefore, most operators work from the former port.
There isn’t much acceptance of water transport services. It further affects the business. Moreover, issues like subsidiaries, pricing, and connectivity are where the government can help.
