Bengaluru Metro Officials Deny Entry To Man With Unbuttoned Shirt At Doddakallasandra Station

A young man was recently denied entry to Bengaluru Metro by the officials because of his unbuttoned shirt. He was stopped at the Doddakallasandra Station by the metro officials. As per the people present at the station, the man was asked to button up his shirt and return to the station after dressing up in “appropriate attire”. This incident has again brought the spotlight on the discriminatory behaviour of Namma Metro officials.

Young Man Denied Entry Over Unbuttoned Shirt In Bengaluru Metro

A young man was stopped at the Doddakallasandra Metro Station in Bengaluru because of his unbuttoned shirt. According to the people present there, the officials asked the man to button up and return to the station in “appropriate attire”. This meant that the man couldn’t enter the metro premises otherwise. Seeing this entire incident, several fellow passengers at the station intervened and some even posted this incident online.

One such post on X (formerly Twitter) showed a picture of the young man. The X user reported the entire incident in the caption. Netizens tagged Bengaluru Metro’s official X account and added the caption, “Location Doddakallasandra metro. One more incident of cloth/attire related incident happened in front of me just now. A labourer was stopped & told to stitch up his top two buttons…When did Namma metro became like this!!?”

Responding to this incident, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reassured that they treat all passengers equally and fairly. According to an official of BMRCL, the authorities were informed about the passenger’s state and to prevent any potential disruption, they temporarily held the young man. They further clarified that he was permitted to continue his journey after some time.

When An Elderly Man Faced The Same Issue Over “Dirty Clothes”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time that the Bengaluru Metro has faced such backlash for denying entry to people. Just a few weeks back, an elderly man was denied entry to the metro by a security supervisor because of his “dirty clothes.” The man was stopped at the security checkpoint at Rajajinagar Station. Fellow passengers captured the entire incident and posted about it online. It led to a massive online outcry and people pointed out the discriminatory behaviour of the metro official.

Seeing the online outrage, the BMRCL had to step in. They took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that after an investigation, they fired the security supervisor who stopped the elderly man from entering the station. They further asserted that “Namma Metro is an inclusive public transport.”

Well, it seems like Namma Metro officials don’t learn from each other’s mistakes! It is disheartening to see this kind of attitude from officials working for public transportation. What is your take on this entire incident? Let us know in the comments!
