Bhopal-Raipur Road Project Gets A Nod
According to NDTV, travelling between Bhopal and Raipur could soon get much quicker, with the Madhya Pradesh government approving two major road projects worth a combined ₹15,000 crore. These include the Jabalpur-Bhopal greenfield expressway and the Jabalpur-Mandla-Chhattisgarh border six-lane corridor. Together, the projects are expected to bring the Bhopal-Raipur journey down from 14-15 hours to just 6-7 hours.
The greenfield expressway will pass through Bhopal, Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur and Mandla before reaching the Chhattisgarh border, creating a faster inter-state link between the two states. The project will also cut the Bhopal-Jabalpur distance from 320 km to 255 km, bringing travel time down from the current 6-7 hours to around 2.5-3 hours.
Further ahead, the Jabalpur-Chhattisgarh border stretch will help make the Jabalpur-Raipur journey faster. The current 7-8-hour drive is expected to take around 3.5-4 hours once the six-lane corridor is ready. The route is also an important trade link between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Here’s All You Need To Know About This
The project will improve connectivity across several cities in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, including Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Sagar, Dindori and Mandla in MP, along with Raipur, Kawardha, Bemetara and Simga in Chhattisgarh.
And there’s good news for travellers too! The improved connectivity could make it easier to explore popular wildlife destinations across the region. The state government has also announced a ₹5,500-crore tiger corridor connecting Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna Tiger Reserves, further boosting access from Bhopal, Jabalpur and Raipur.
The Jabalpur-Mandla-Raipur route via Chilpi Ghat will also be upgraded into a six-lane expressway at a cost of ₹2,500 crore. Once completed, vehicles on the new expressway will be able to travel at speeds of up to 120 kmph, helping cut down journey times significantly.
