The Story Behind Sagar Gaire

It all started back in the 1980s, when Dolraj Gaire, a man with a bicycle and, obviously, a dream, came to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. After trying his hand at various jobs, he started selling hot soup on Bhopal’s roads in 2003. What started as a soup cycle slowly stood out among street food like chaats and samosas for its taste. Locals quickly started loving the soup, especially during the city’s chilly evenings. Dolraj Gaire moved from place to place, selling soups.

After a few years, when locals demanded more eating options, Gaire started selling sandwiches. Initially, he would use a cycle to peddle soup, with a board that read ‘cycle soupwala’. From that time, “Cycle Soupwala”, Sagar Gaire’s venture, grew steadily and became one of Bhopal’s most famous soups. After gaining a lot of popularity, Gaire took a loan from the bank and turned his stall into an outlet and named it ‘Sagar Gaire’ after his son. And soon, Sagar Gaire became a household name, expanding to multiple branches across the city.

The Best Sandwiches & Soup

Today, the chain is not only famous in Bhopal but is also widely expanded in other Madhya Pradesh cities like Jabalpur, Gwalior and Indore. Sagar Gaire serves everything from cheesy sandwiches and pizzas to cold coffee and Indo-Chinese favourites, biryanis, and, of course, the soups that started it all.
