In an unfortunate series of events, a bridge which was under construction in Bihar has collapsed. A video has surfaced on social media which showed a collapsed section of the bridge. The tragic incident took place at a bridge located in the Maricha region of Supaul on the morning of Friday, March 22. Unfortunately, a few people are still trapped in the debris. Here are all the other important details that would need to know about this tragic bridge collapse.

Bihar: Under-Construction Bridge At Maricha Collapses

According to an article which was recently published by News18, the incident took place in the Maricha region which is located between Bheja and Bakaur. If reports are to go by, the collapse has claimed the life of at least one person.

In addition to these, it is believed that nine people are still trapped in the debris of the collapse. Rescue operations are currently underway. A video of the collapsed bridge has gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The people who are trapped are construction workers and the authorities are already on the spot, attempting to rescue them from the debris. The bridge was being built over the Kosi River and was a part of the country’s longest road bridge.

Similarities To Other Incidents That Happened Last Year Too

This particular road bridge is being built at an estimated cost of ₹984 crores. Reports state that slabs of pillars 50, 51, and 52 of the bridge collapsed.

Last year, a similar incident took place in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar. The superstructure of the Sultanganj-Aguani Ghat bridge ended up collapsing on June 4, 2023. This was the second time the bridge was collapsing.

It collapsed for the first time on April 30, 2023.
