Brunei To Stone Gay Couples To Death

Under 140 characters:

The small South-Asian country of Brunei will be stoning gay couples to death, according to new laws.

The news:

The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkian is now introducing new laws wherein sex between men will be punishable by death. The country already deemed homosexuality as a crime since the past decade but its held onto the death penalty after its last application in 1957.

However according to BBC, the Sultan publicly addressed these words, “I want to see Islamic teachings in this country grow stronger,” in relation to the present implementation of new laws.

The law states that any sexual relation between men will result in being stoned to death.

The gay community within the country is readily terrified by the reintroduction of these medieval modes of punishment. The law applies mainly to the country’s Muslim population (recorded 420,000) but certain aspects of it might apply to the non-Muslim population as well.

Moreover, lesbian sex within the country is punishable with 40 strokes of the cane and/or a minimum of 10 years in prison.

Here’s what we can do about it:

Claimed to be some of the wealthiest people in the world, the ruling royals of the country run a chain of very popular hospitality ventures. Some of them include the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles and the Dorchester In London.

George Clooney at The Ellen Show spoke about how we should all “rise up” and put an end to this act. In response, the show posted a list of hotels owned by the Sultan on Brunei which should be boycotted in response to the harsh new laws being set forth.

So if you know anyone who’s visiting or planning to stay in any of the above properties, kindly inform them of this situation in Brunei. Let’s help the gay citizens of the country in every way we can. Because love is love.
