The Food Safety Department in the Telangana city of Hyderabad recently conducted a raid in one of the warehouses of the quick-commerce company Blinkit. Owned by Zomato, Blinkit promises to deliver grocery items in around ten minutes. The Food Safety Department found that the warehouse was lacking basic health and hygiene as well as safety measures. Here are all of the important details that you need to know about the violations found in this warehouse.

Food Safety Dept Finds Health Violations In Blinkit Warehouse

According to an article which was recently published by Moneycontrol, this particular warehouse is located in the Devarayamjal area of the Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Hyderabad. Quick-commerce companies like Blinkit are growing fast and they often neglect basic safety measures.

In a statement made by the Food Safety Commissioner cited in the Moneycontrol article, products manufactured by the Kamakshi Foods Licence present in the warehouse were found to be expired. These include Poha, Bajra, Suji, Maida, raw peanut butter, Besan, and more.

Expired products worth ₹30,000 were seized from this warehouse. In addition to this, another batch of grains and pulses worth ₹52,000 were suspected to be infested with bugs. These include whole farm ragi flour or finger millet flour as well as toor dal or pigeon peas.

Other Important Details That You Need To Know About This

As per a Blinkit spokesperson cited in the article, the company takes health and safety measures very seriously. They are now working closely with the Food Safety Department to ensure that such violations do not happen again.

The quick-commerce company is also implementing a plethora of remedial and corrective measures to ensure the situation is amended as soon as possible.

Recently, there has been a rise in the number of health and safety violations by restaurants as well. Random checks and raids have found even popular eateries operating under less-than-ideal conditions.
