For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Chandigarh on June 1, the city’s election department has taken a unique approach to encourage voter participation. Keeping Chandigarh’s rich cultural and architectural heritage in mind, the election department has decided to set up five theme-based polling booths in the city.

While showcasing the architectural heritage of Chandigarh, the booths will have popular architectural gems of the city in focus. This will include the Rock Garden, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Museum, and some gardens and roundabouts of the city. There will also be a booth dedicated to showcasing the city’s beauty and cleanliness through artwork. These vibrant polling booths aim to create an engaging atmosphere during elections.

Talking about these themed booths, District election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh told Hindustan Times, “The election department hopes that these themed booths will not only boost voter turnout but also educate residents about the city’s rich history and culture. We encourage everyone to visit these booths, cast their vote, and enjoy the experience.”

This booth will have Le Corbusier’s iconic architectural designs as well. At Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, a Rock Garden-themed booth will be set up. It will have replicas of the garden’s sculptures as well.

The “Indian Air Force Heritage Museum” themed polling booth will be set up at the Government Model High School, Sector 31. Another booth dedicated to showcasing Chandigarh’s beauty and cleanliness will be put up at RIMT World School, Manimajra. The fifth booth with the ‘Gardens and Roundabouts of Chandigarh’ theme will be showcased at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36. This one will focus on the extensive green network and unique roundabouts in the city.

Chandigarh will also have 10 polling booths that will be managed by differently-abled people and youth. In total, around 614 polling booths are being set across the city for the elections on June 1.
