Reasi district’s Chenab Rail Bridge is an excellent example of advanced engineering development. Building roads and highways at the primary location of the world’s highest bridge was a major challenge because of its topographical conditions. However, the perfect planning, spectacular infrastructure, execution, and immense dedication of everyone involved with the project made it possible to build the gigantic bridge about 359 metres over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir.

It is indeed a proud feeling to acknowledge that India’s Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir is home to the highest single-arch railway bridge in the entire world. Ever since the beginning of the project, everyone has been curious about the infrastructural wonder. Now, that the construction is completed, we got to know updates about train services beginning on the bridge.

Northern Railway stated that train services will soon start between Ramban and Reasi. Currently, trains run from Kanyakumari to Katra. Another train route is from Baramulla to Sangaldan. An inspection was conducted by the railway officials recently. It was to inspect the railway line and train stations between Sangaldan and Reasi.

Vishesh Mahajan, Reasi Deputy Commissioner, recently talked about the Chenab rail bridge and called it an “engineering marvel of the modern world.” He further added that the train services will begin soon, according to a report by News 18. The Deputy Commissioner did not share any date but added that he hopes the starting day comes soon.

  • 30,000 metric tons of steel have been used in building the Chenab Rail Bridge.
  • Every side of this world-renowned architecture is around 1/4th the size of a football ground.
  • The 1,315-metre-long bridge has been constructed at a cost of ₹14,000 crore.
  • It has the strength to stand tall against temperatures up to -40°C and earthquakes.
  • Also, it can withstand wind speed at a maximum speed of 260 km/h.
