China Is Drilling A 10K Metre Deep Hole In Oil-Rich Xinjiang Region To Explore Earth’s Surface!

Science is the base of invention. And scientific experiments and explorations have allowed us to uncover important discoveries. In order to accomplish this, many of them had to sacrifice a lot but discovered some important details. Recently, in China, scientists are drilling a deep hole in its oil-rich province to study Earth’s surface. Here are the details that you should know about the hole being drilled in China.

China Is Drilling A 10K Deep Hole In Xinjiang Province

China is the second-largest economy in the world exploring new frontiers above and below the planet’s surface. Chinese researchers have begun drilling a hole through the Earth’s crust that is 10,000 metres (32,808 feet) deep. The nation’s oil-rich Xinjiang province saw the start of drilling on Tuesday for what is anticipated to be China’s deepest-ever borehole.

Before reaching the cretaceous system in the Earth’s crust, which contains rock that is approximately 145 million years old, the thin shaft, according to the study. It will pass through more than 10 continental strata, or layers of rock.

As per the NDTV report, President Xi Jinping called for faster advancements in deep Earth exploration. Such research can help by discovering mineral and energy resources as well as evaluating the risks of natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

A BBC report states that the Kola Superdeep Borehole is both the deepest artificial point and the deepest man-made hole on Earth. Locals claim that the construction is so deep that you can hear the moans of souls being tortured in hell. The drill bit was only about one-third of the way through the crust to the Earth’s mantle when the project came to a grinding halt amid the chaos of post-Soviet Russia, despite the Soviets spending nearly 20 years drilling this far.

However, it isn’t the only one! The superpowers competed to drill as far into the Earth’s crust and even as far as the planet’s mantle as they could during the Cold War.
