With the aim of creating a silver economy to unlock the spending power of its ageing population, China plans to roll out special trains for seniors. As revealed in a report by Hindustan Times, it was mentioned that the Culture and Tourism and Commerce ministries have issued a guideline action plan for the launch of these trains. These trains are specifically designed for retired tourists and the guideline has been issued along with China State Railway Group Co.

Called a nationwide Silver Tourist Train network, it features diverse tourist routes. Not to mention, a wide range of tourism themes and comprehensive services will also be built by 2027. This development comes at a time when one in five of the mainland’s 1.4 billion people were aged 60 years or older at the end of 2022. With the ratio expected to exceed 30% in a decade, this development is just in time.
