If you’re planning an international travel soon but are intimidated by the paperwork required for a visa, there’s good news for you! The list of Asian countries that have recently scrapped visa requirements for Indian passport holders, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, has seen an addition! Malaysia, too, is now added to the list. Here are all the important details that you would need to know about this new update in Malaysia’s Visa policy!

According to an article which was recently published by livemint, Indian passport holders will no longer require a visa to visit Malaysia. Anwar Ibrahim, who is the Prime Minister of Malaysia, stated so in a speech he gave at the annual congress of his People’s Justice Party. The move is a bid to boost tourism in the country. A majority of Malaysia’s tourist footfall comes from India and China.

Hence, to attract an even greater footfall, which would help boost their economy, Malaysia has scrapped Visa requirements for Indian passport holders from December 1, 2023. This means that Indian passport holders can stay for up to 30 days in Malaysia visa-free. Last year, the Prime minister announced that he would improve visa facilities for tourists as well as encourage investors.

The announcement was made on Sunday at Putrajaya. The country is counting on tourism to boost its economy. Removal of visa requirements means that travelling to the country now requires significantly less hassle. This means that people who want an international getaway without the hassle of applying for a visa can visit Malaysia.

Other Countries That Recently Scrapped Visa Requirements For Indian Passport Holders

Vietnam may soon allow visa-free entry for Indian passport holders. Vietnam is one of the most popular destinations with Indians and its popularity has only increased of late. Citizens who have a German, French, Swedish, Italian, Spanish, Danish, or a Finnish passport can avail of visa-free travel in Vietnam. India may soon be added to the list as well.

In the last month, Thailand announced that tourists who are from India or Taiwan. This will only be for a limited period of time, from November 10, 2023, to May 10, 2024. Some time ago, even Sri Lanka scrapped visa requirements for tourists from India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand. This policy is a pilot project and will be applicable till March 31, 2024.

Malaysia is a breathtaking and underrated country when it comes to tourism. It has a rich culture and varied biodiversity. Visiting this country would be very enriching.
