The beautiful region of Maui was recently ravaged by a wildfire which ended up claiming the lives of around 115 people. Until recently, authorities were strongly discouraging tourists from visiting the region of Maui as they attempted to navigate and try to recover from this dire situation. However, this recently changed. The authorities are now ready to reopen parts of Maui for tourists and are encouraging people to come and help the tourism industry get back on track.
Maui To Reopen From October
Hawaii’s Maui suffered a dreadful wildfire. Owing to that, non-essential travel in most of the regions was strongly discouraged. However, since tourism is a major industry and a source of income for the region, authorities are now opening up Beach hotels and resorts in West Maui.
On October 8, most of West Maui will be ready to welcome tourists again. Josh Green, the governor of Maui, has signed off on a new Wildfire Emergency Rule. According to an article recently published in the Hindustan Times, the governor held a meeting with the Council on Revenues.
In the meeting, it was revealed that the authorities were planning on reopening West Maui for tourism. However, the parts that were affected by the fire will not be open to tourists. The historic town of Lahaina is one of the worst affected areas and is one of the areas which will be closed to tourists.

The New Wildfire Emergency Rule
In the meeting, which was held on Friday, September 9, the governor stated that the previous official guidance that discouraged non-essential travel would be revoked from October 8. This is because tourism is one of the biggest revenue sources for the region.
Since the area is reeling from the impact of the wildfire, having tourists would provide a significant boost to the local economy. The article stated that there was a 70 per cent reduction in tourism since the fire happened. Many hotels and resorts are offering discounts on rooms and even airfares have dropped in order to encourage tourists to visit.
