The Bastin Bazar Durga Temple in Asansol, West Bengal, has been closed for several years due to local circumstances. The temple is managed by the Shri Shri Durgamata Charitable Trust and is usually opened only during festivals like Durga Puja and Laxmi Puja.

However, now, after the recently held Assembly elections in the state, the doors of the temple have been reopened. According to Moneycontrol, the temple reopened after the BJP secured all nine Assembly seats in the Paschim Bardhaman district, which includes Asansol, creating a wave of excitement among local residents. By evening, the temple gates were finally opened, making it one of the crucial moments in history.

How Long Has The Temple Remained Closed?

The Bastin Bazaar Durga Temple has been closed for nearly 15–17 years and was shut down in 2011. Videos circulating on social media show devotees gathering in large numbers at the temple premises. Many were offering prayers and ringing bells as the gates opened again, marking a joyful moment for the local community.

Locals expressed happiness over regaining year-round access to the temple. They said it felt like a return to normalcy after years of restrictions and uncertainty.
