We have seen many videos on social media about people moving abroad for studies, work, or a better life. Now, a video of a 94-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh is going viral online. After spending years in the US, she has given up her US citizenship and wants to spend her final years as an Indian citizen. Read on to know more!

X user Bhakt Prahlad (@RakeshKishore_l) shared a video of a 94-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh. As per Hindustan Times, Kondragunta Mahalakshmamma is a native of Chinthagumpala village in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district. She moved to the US after the death of her husband. Her son, Buchaiah Choudhary, was working as an oncologist in Petersburg, Virginia. In 2000, she became a US citizen and lived there for nearly 18 years.

However, in 2018, she returned to Andhra Pradesh when her son started working at NRI Hospital in Mangalagiri. Since then, she has been living in India and hoping to regain her Indian citizenship.

Her Last Wish Is To Live As An Indian Citizen

In the video, the woman meeting government officials to speed up her citizenship application has gone viral online. Hindustan Times reported that on Wednesday, June 24, she visited Bapatla District Collector J. Venkata Murali along with her son and requested him to help complete the process at the earliest. 

During the meeting, the elderly woman made an emotional appeal. She said she is nearing 95 years of age and wants to spend the rest of her life in India as an Indian citizen, and expressed her wish to have her last rites performed in her native village. 

Mahalakshmamma told officials that she has already given up her US citizenship and now hopes to become an Indian citizen again. She promised to follow India’s laws and respect the Constitution. The District Collector assured her that officials would complete the required inquiry before sending her application to the state and central governments for approval.
