Cuba is ravaged by floods. The island country has evacuated over 7000 people in its central and eastern areas due to massive flooding. Moreover, 10,000 homes have been damaged and 65 have collapsed as per reports by NBC News. Military boats are being used in Cuba to ferry residents amid the flooding. Cuba Ravaged By Heavy Rains, Causing Destruction To Island Nation
Cuba’s Camagüey, Las Tunas, Granma and Santiago de Cuba were ravaged by heavy rains from 8th to 9th June 2023. The Instituto de Meteorología de Cuba (INSMET) stated that Granma is one of the worst affected areas in Cuba. Here, one person drowned due to the floods. The governor of this Cuban province announced that thousands of homes were damaged out of which 279 are partially or totally destroyed.

Around 7,259 people in this province were evacuated after 280.3mm of rain was witnessed in Granma Province. With over 7000 people evacuated, 10,000 homes destroyed and one person passed away, Cuba is in distress. As per a report by WSVN, rescuers helped families affected by floods by flying them to safety. Men, women and children displaced are taken to homes of relatives of state shelters for safety.

Several villages of Cuba are cut off from the rest of the island nation as the bridges have given way. Families in Jiguani town have no electricity. Unfortunately, heavy rains are forecasted for the next two days in Cuba.
