Cyclone Remal is weakening into a ‘cyclonic storm,’ as per reports. It is said that the storm will weaken further during the day. However, it has managed to cause destruction on quite a wide scale in the coastal areas of West Bengal. In a post made on X (formerly known as Twitter) PM Modi shared that he recently chaired a meeting reviewing the disaster management measures taken by the authorities amid the cyclone. He also stated that he prays for the safety of all.

The cyclone, although weakened now, has wreaked havoc on coastal West Bengal. It claimed the life of one person in Bibir Bagan and ended up injuring another in the Gosaba region of the Sundarbans. Many have shared visuals of the destruction caused by the storm.

The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport has finally resumed flight operations. Yesterday, it temporarily shut down operations owing to the inclement weather caused by the storm. Now, after 21 hours, it has resumed operations.

4. More Than One Lakh People Evacuated From Vulnerable Areas

According to an article which was recently published by India Today, authorities have managed to evacuate as many as one lakh people from the areas that were deemed to be vulnerable to the storm. As per weather officials, it is likely that the storm will now move further north northeastwards and will continue to weaken.
