In recent turns of events, four people died, and over 20 others fell ill after suspected food poisoning at a Shraddha feast in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. The victims experienced vomiting, stomach pain and weakness symptoms after eating the food. Read on to know more about it.

4 Died & 20+ Fell Ill After Suspected Food Poisoning

As per a report by Telangana Today, authorities have sent medical teams for immediate treatment of the patients, while food samples were collected for laboratory testing to identify the exact cause. Four people died, and over 20 others fell ill after apparently consuming food at a ‘shraddha’ in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. The incident took place in Nuadihi village in the Hemgir block of the district. As per the officials, soon after eating the food, several people from Nuadihi village and neighbouring Sunakhaen village in Jharsuguda district complained of vomiting, stomach pain and severe weakness after consuming the feast.

An official told the portal that the affected people were rushed to nearby hospitals. Two women from Jharsuguda district and two others from Sundargarh district died during treatment. The deceased were identified as Mangal Sai Naik and Raibari Pradhan of Nuadihi village and Ullas Khadia and Sukanti Khadia of Sunakhaen village. The official further said that the food poisoning is believed to be the cause of the deaths, although the exact reason will be confirmed after medical examination and laboratory testing of the food samples.

The Main Cause Is Yet To Be Confirmed

After attending a funeral gathering in Sundargarh district two days ago, some people experienced diarrhoea-like symptoms. Sundargarh Chief District Medical Officer Suresh Chandra Mohanty told the portal that around 28 people fell sick from the suspected food poisoning. Of them, six were referred to a hospital in Sundargarh and one to VIMSAR, Burla.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling expressed grief over the incident and talked to the portal about the same. He also wished a speedy recovery to those undergoing treatment.

The food poisoning has led to some serious repercussions.
