In two panchayats of Jharkhand’s Giridih district, at least one child has died, and more than 60 people have fallen ill following a suspected case of food poisoning linked to the consumption of pani puri. Read on to know more about it.

1 Dead After Eating Pani Puri In Jharkhand

As per a report by the Indian Express, village head Jitendra Verma told the portal that on Sunday, around 40–50 people in the panchayat reported symptoms of diarrhoea. Out of which, a six-year-old child died, he said. On the following day, many fresh cases emerged from Palmo panchayat, where around 20 more people were ill and around 10 were admitted to Giridih Sadar Hospital.

Villagers also said that all those affected had consumed pani puri sold by the vendor, who is from Palmo panchayat. Jitendra also claimed that although the vendor was initially detained by police, he was released later the same night.

As per reports, the child who died had been brought to Giridih Sadar Hospital after his condition deteriorated. Ram Kishor Prasad Verma, who is the child’s father, had alleged serious lapses in both emergency response and hospital treatment.

No Proper Medical Care At The Hospital?

He also told the portal that even after reaching the hospital, no immediate care was provided. And for almost one-and-a-half hours, no doctor or nurse attended to him. The family has not yet filed any formal complaint, but said that they intend to raise the issue with authorities. The father also blamed the authorities and said that if timely treatment had been provided, his child could have survived. He also told the portal that he will lodge a case against the gupchup seller and also against the doctors and nurses who were present here.

Meanwhile, other affected patients continue to receive treatment at the hospital, with many being administered saline. The officials suspect food poisoning; the actual cause is still under investigation. The Civil Surgeon, Dr Bachcha Prasad Singh, informed the portal that people fell ill after eating the pani puri. He added that the condition of the 18 patients is stable, and the exact cause will be confirmed after the investigation reports are received.
