Delhi Imposes Night Curfew, Bans New Year’s Eve Events & Gatherings At Public Places

We’ve told you about the night curfew in Mumbai on New Year’s Eve in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The capital city, Delhi, too has imposed a night curfew that will be in effect on December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021, from 11 PM to 6 AM. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has imposed the night curbs to combat the spread of the infection. The order has added that not more than five people will be permitted to assemble at a public place. No parties, events, gatherings and celebrations will be permitted after 11 PM.

Night Curfew In Delhi From 11 PM To 6 AM On New Year’s Eve

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has imposed night curbs in the Capital from 11 PM to 6 AM on December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021. The order issued by DDMA reads, “A detailed assessment of the situation in Delhi has been made and considering the threat posed by the mutant UK strain of Covid-19 virus and after observing the local incidents of the pandemic in GNCT, Delhi, it is apprehended that gatherings, congregations and public celebrations of New Year pose a considerable threat of spread of the virus and may cause setback to the appreciable gains made in the suppression of chain on transmission of Covid-19 cases in Delhi.”

A tweet on the same by ANI reads, “Delhi Disaster Management Authority imposes night curfew in Delhi; Not more than five persons to assemble at public place, no new year celebration events, no gatherings at public places permitted from 11pm of 31st Dec to 6am of 1st Jan and 11pm of 1 Jan to 6am of 2nd Jan.” Also, Delhi emerged as the world’s most booked city in 2020 despite lockdown and travel restrictions.

Other Places That Have Imposed Restrictions

Several other states have also imposed restrictions on New Year celebrations. In Maharashtra, night curfew will be imposed from 11 PM to 6 AM till January 5, 2021. Tamil Nadu has entirely banned New Year festivities on the beaches, beach roads, clubs, resorts, hotels and similar places on the nights of December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021. Rajasthan has imposed a curfew from 8 PM on December 31, 2020 to 6 AM on January 1, 2021. The capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun has prohibited New Year celebrations in restaurants, bars and hotels on December 31 and January 1.
