Delhi Imposes Complete Curfew From Tonight Till April 26; Only Essential Services Will Remain Open

With the rising COVID cases, the second wave of coronavirus is proving to be deadlier. And while Maharashtra has imposed lockdown-like curbs across the state, Delhi is not far behind. Following Maharashtra’s footsteps, Delhi had announced a weekend curfew to tide over the COVID-19 crisis. The Arvind Kejriwal government had imposed weekend curfew in Delhi to break the transmission chain.

However, now, the government has decided that Delhi will be under complete curfew from tonight to next Monday morning as the steep rise in cases has severely strained the city’s resources and health infrastructure. The government has allowed only essential services and government offices to remain open. All private offices have been directed to work from home.

Only Essential Services Will Operate On Weekends

During the weekends, only essential services will be allowed and all other commercial shops and businesses will remain closed. Those travelling to the airport or the railway station will be given curfew passes to move around in the city. Restaurants & Malls Will Remain Closed

The city government has also ordered to check overcrowding at public places like the malls, spas, auditoriums, and gyms. The government has allowed cinema halls to with 30% audiences on weekdays. Also, one weekly market per will be allowed to operate to contain the spread of the virus. Delhi Also Imposed Night Curfew From 10 pm To 5 Pm Till April 30

Delhi imposed a strict night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am starting from April 6, night and ending on April 30. This night curfew translates to the fact that Delhiites cannot move around at night unless it’s for a reason categorised as essential or emergency. Government officials, healthcare workers, people working in stores selling food or medicines, those working in 24×7 manufacturing, people travelling outside the city through trains, buses and flights, don’t need an e-pass to step out during night curfew hours.

The decision was taken after Delhi recorded its highest single-day surge since the onset of the pandemic, logging in over 17k fresh cases in 24 hours.
