Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is on its way to transform into India’s first global hub airport. The government is working with the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to make sure that this airport in India’s capital becomes the busiest airport. They are in talks with the biggies from the aviation industry like IndiGo and Air India to make sure that this transformation is not just on papers but turns into a reality soon.
India’s First Global Hub Airport
For now, the project of turning the Delhi airport into India’s first global hub airport is still a work in progress. Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Schindia and Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal are meeting with stakeholders to discuss the plan. The Ministry is planning to make the air transfers on international, national, and domestic routes totally effortless for the passengers.
He said that they are trying to make sure that this process does not take much time so that all the travellers can experience global connectivity. Globally, hub airports are dominated by one or two airlines. Hence, they are trying to bring that to India by including one or two airlines.
10th Most Busy Airport In The World
Looking at the statistics, India’s Delhi Airport, in terms of footfall, is almost on the same line as that of the USA’s famous John F. Kennedy airport. It is currently the 10th busiest airport in the world. The number of annual passenger footfalls in Delhi is 7 crore, which is estimated to reach 10 crore soon.
The transformation will need huge transit areas for smooth transfers. To make sure that all the passengers travel from one terminal to another easily, they will require an air train link. The airlines will have to provide direct connectivity across the world with wide-bodied aircraft. The passengers will not bear the air train cost, so that will need advertisers.
