Delhi Mandates 7-Days Institutional Quarantine For People Arriving From The UK

The new covid-19 strain found in the UK is mutating like a wildfire. And to curb the spread of the new strain in India, the Delhi government has tightened the covid-19 protocol for passengers arriving from the UK at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The UK passengers will now have to take a 7-day mandatory institutional quarantine in the capital. This rule also applies to people who test negative for the condition.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tweeted This Latest Order 

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted this latest order, which was issued by chief secretary Vijay Dev on Friday. As per the protocol, it will be strictly followed in Delhi as a trial for a week till January 14. As per the government officials, rules might be extended depending on the situation.

Passengers Who Test Negative Will Have Two Options To Choose From For Quarantine 

When it comes to 7-day institutional quarantine, a senior government official has stated that patrons who test negative for covid will have two options for quarantine. They will have one paid institutional quarantine at Aloft Hotel in Aerocity, which is on Covid-19 duty by the New Delhi district administration. And people who want to opt for free quarantine can choose Terapanth Bhawan in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur area.

For patrons who test positive, they will be taken to Lok Nayak Hospital where there is a separate isolation ward for UK returnees. When it comes to this order, it is a bit different from the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Centre on Wednesday.

Initially, as per the guidelines issued by the Union ministry of health and family welfare, those who are found negative on testing at the airport would be advised quarantine at home for 14 days. CM Kejriwal, on Friday, changed this rule a bit and made institutional quarantine mandatory for all UK returnees.
