Repair work on the Sarita Vihar Flyover will officially begin on June 10th, 2024, and continue for 60 days in four phases. This project was originally planned for June 2023 but faced delays, with the latest attempt in May also postponed due to elections.
Traffic Flow Management Strategies
To minimize disruption, repairs will be conducted in phases, with only one direction of the flyover partially closed at a time. This means half of the flyover in one direction will be shut down for repairs while the other half remains open to traffic.
The repair work itself will be strategically divided into four phases to minimize traffic disruption. Phase 1 will focus on the lane carrying traffic from Ashram to Faridabad, with only half of the lane closed for repairs at a time. Once completed, Phase 2 will tackle the remaining half of the same direction.
Finally, Phases 3 and 4 will shift attention to the lanes carrying traffic from Faridabad to Ashram, again employing a half-lane closure approach for each phase. This phased approach ensures at least one lane remains open for traffic flow in each direction throughout the entire project.

A Temporary Inconvenience For Long-Term Benefit
To further improve traffic movement, the U-turn on Road No. 13A will be widened specifically to accommodate commercial vehicles. Additionally, a team of at least 10 traffic marshals will be deployed to assist with managing the flow of traffic.
For clear and safe navigation during the construction period, proper signage and lighting will be installed. Finally, to minimize congestion caused by machinery, its operation will be restricted during peak traffic hours. Furthermore, any debris from the repairs will be promptly removed from the road to avoid additional obstacles for commuters.
Traffic authorities anticipate significant congestion, particularly impacting areas like Sarita Vihar, Badarpur, New Friends Colony, Kalindi Kunj, Okhla, and Faridabad. A detailed list of alternative routes is being prepared by the traffic police to help commuters navigate around the construction zones. We advise checking official channels for the latest information on specific detours and alternative routes.
The repairs are crucial for the Sarita Vihar flyover’s long-term structural integrity and safety. While the closure will cause temporary inconvenience, commuters are encouraged to be patient and consider carpooling or utilising public transport during this period. By planning ahead and utilising the alternative routes, the impact on daily commutes can be minimised.
