India’s Beating Retreat Ceremony is a dazzling display of military precision, cultural grandeur, and patriotic fervour. Republic Day celebrations will officially come to a close on January 29 at Vijay Chowk with the beating retreat ceremony. In light of the event, Delhi Traffic Police released traffic advice regarding parking, road closures, and diversions.

New Traffic Guidelines For India’s Beating Retreat Ceremony

Held annually on January 29th, at the iconic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi, the Beating Retreat Ceremony marks the culmination of the four-day-long Republic Day celebrations. The following traffic restrictions will be in effect tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to promote efficient traffic flow, prevent gridlock, and protect attendees and onlookers from the inconvenience caused by traffic near the venue:

  • Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic.
  • Traffic will be restricted on Rafi Marg between R/A Surehet Masjid and R/A Krishi Bhawan, Rasina Road from R/A Krishi Bhawan to Vijay Chowk, beyond R/A Dara Shikoh Road, R/A Krishna Menon Marg and R/A Sunehri Masjid towards Vijay Chowk, and Kartavyapath between Vijay Chowk and “C” Hexagon.
  • Commuters are advised to take alternate routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Madarsa T-Point, and Safdarjung Road.
  • Furthermore, parking will be accessible for those travelling to see the illumination at Vijay Chowk behind the water channels between Rafi Marg and “C” Hexagon only from 7:00 pm.

Buses Will Also Be Diverted

At the same time, DTC bus lines would be rerouted around the main venue and India Gate. Buses going for Connaught Place will take the Mandir Marg, Kali Ban Marg, GPO, and Baba Kharak Singh Marg routes. Buses travelling from Connaught Place via Kasturba Gandhi Marg to India Gate will pass over Minto Road, DDU Marg, IP Flyover, Ring Road, and Sarai Kale Khan. Connaught Place-bound buses departing from Mandi House and Feroz Shah Road will stop at Shiva Stadium and return via Kasturba Gandhi Marg or Barakhamba Road.
