Dine In A Swanky Railway Coach At West Bengal’s New Rail Coach Restaurant In Jalpaiguri Station

What are your thoughts on dining in a railway coach? Yes, you heard it right! Recently, New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal’s Siliguri now has an old refurbished train coach converted into a restaurant. According to a report from an official on Tuesday, the swanky Railway Coach serves multi-cuisine delicacies to its guests and has a capacity of around 32 guests. Read on to know more details about this new train-turned-restaurant in West Bengal.

The Railway Coach Restaurant Is Serving Cuisines, From North India and South India to Chinese

Sanjay Chilwarwar, who is the additional divisional railway manager of New Jalpaiguri Junction reveals that the new Railway Coach in West Bengal is serving different cuisines – from North Indian and South Indian to Chinese.
He says, “The restaurant will not only help in increasing the revenue of the railways but also passengers will be able to have a unique experience of dining on a train coach. Not just railway passengers, but anyone can come and dine at the restaurant.”

The Northeast Frontier Railway Plans To Put Up More Such Restaurants

The Northeast Frontier Railway has plans to set up such restaurants in the Sukna, Tindhara, Kurseong, and Darjeeling stations of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway as well. Talking about the same, Chilwarwar said such restaurants might come up soon in these places.
According to The Jalpaiguri Railway Coach restaurant operator Sishir Haldar, a huge number of people travel through the New Jalpaiguri station. “…and they look for nearby places to eat, this initiative will be a great help for them. We are hopeful that they will like the unique concept,” he said. An official further added that after refurbishing the old coach, the railway handed it to the licensee, who spent another Rs 30 lakh on setting up the restaurant, said an official. The restaurant, which is serviced by 40 staff, is operational from 6 am to 10 pm.
