Dubai, renowned as one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities, boasts a vibrant Pakistani community. Pakistanis are considered to be the second-largest population in the UAE after Indians. On August 14, 2023, Dubai’s Pakistani population joined hands in commemorating their country’s 76 years of independence from British colonial rule. Here’s how Dubai celebrates Pakistani Independence Day this year.

Pakistani Independence Day Celebrations In Dubai

The focal point of the celebration occurred at the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD).A volunteer-driven non-profit organization catering to the welfare and culture of Pakistani expatriates since 1963. The PAD orchestrated a flag-raising ceremony, accompanied by a cultural extravaganza showcasing Pakistani music, dance, poetry, and drama. Esteemed Pakistani figures are set to deliver speeches at the event. Alongside these, the PAD will unveil an art exhibition featuring paintings that depicted the rich history and culture of Pakistan.

In an effort to empower Pakistani youth in Dubai, the PAD introduced a pioneering initiative. The Brick Café Lounge is a social enterprise which provides employment prospects and skills training to Pakistanis. Furthermore, will offer delectable Pakistani cuisine, beverages, and artistic crafts. The café serves as a cornerstone of the PAD’s vision to establish a vibrant hub for Pakistani culture and community within Dubai.

Events, Performances and more

Dubai’s Pakistani residents further marked their independence day by participating in a myriad of activities staged by diverse groups and associations. These included sports tournaments, quiz contests, essay competitions, poetry recitals, musical performances, and charitable endeavours. According to Platinumlist Events, Dubai hosted a concert of Pakistani singers at Sheikh Rashid Hall in Dubai to mark the musical celebration. Many are also flocking to Dubai’s iconic landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Frame.

As a part of the Independence Day festivities, various attractions in Dubai extended complimentary admission to visitors from Pakistan. Notable among these were the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, the Dubai Ice Rink, and the KidZania theme park. This gesture exemplified goodwill towards the Pakistani community while also encouraging them to delve into the multitude of attractions Dubai has in store.

In conjunction with the complimentary access to these attractions, the Independence Day celebrations encompassed a captivating lucky draw. It boasts prizes valued at up to AED 50,000. Attendees had the opportunity to vie for enticing rewards. It includes gold coins, airline tickets, and hotel accommodations, thereby infusing the event with an additional layer of excitement.
