Dubai RTA Has Announced A Brand New Platform To Monitor Bicycles & E-Scooters!

Although cycling is an eco-friendly method of transportation, while also keeping the cyclist fit, it is dangerous. The reason for this is that there are many fast-moving automobiles that are also running simultaneously. As a result, it might cause some mishaps! So, to avoid such situations, and to ensure the utmost safety of people who are travelling via non-motorised means, the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a platform. This comprehensive platform is called Enterprise Command & Control Centre, which aims at monitoring non-motorised means of transport. This includes bicycles and e-scooters and here’s all about this new platform.

As mentioned above, the basic motive of this new platform is to keep an eye on the use of non-motorised means of transportation. As per a report by Khaleej Times, this program will use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to facilitate a smoother journey for commuters and enhance traffic safety. They will be doing so on the crossing lanes that have been designated for pedestrians and cyclists. Moreover, this program will help in promoting the integration of several mobility means. This is being done to ensure a more seamless and integrated level of the travel journey. Especially for those, who use public transport vehicles.

Although this initiative is still in the initial phase, it has been linked to the systems of service providers. As it happens, the EC3 has already been linked to five providers of soft mobility services. This includes four shared e-scooters operators and one shared bike operator. As there are more than 2500 e-scooters that are operated across 21 regions, it’s important that their movement is also regulated. It’s worth mentioning that recently, the RTA also introduced an underpass that can be accessed by cyclists in the Al Meydan area. This is hardly surprising, as the cycle tracks across Dubai have grown from 9 kilometres in 2006 to a whopping 544 kilometres in 2022.

So, what do you think about this platform?
