Netflix’s Desi Bling turned Lailli Mirza and Alizey Mirza into household names almost overnight, and the twin sisters are still opening up about the life that shaped them before the cameras arrived. On a recent episode of Curly Tales’ In Your Neighbourhood, Lailli Mirza and Alizey Mirza got candid about growing up in London with a single mother who quietly carried the weight of raising them.

Desi Bling’s Lailli & Alizey Reveal Their Childhood Built On Sacrifice

The sisters admitted they don’t remember much of their early years, but they’re clear on one thing: their mother’s journey to give them a good life was slow, steady, and full of love. She prioritised their education above almost everything else, making sure they attended private school even when money was tight.

That commitment came at a real cost. The twins recalled a story their mother had told them many times, one that stuck with them. At one particularly difficult point, she didn’t have enough spare cash to buy milk. Rather than let her daughters go without, she dipped into their childhood piggy banks, money she had always insisted was being saved for them, just to get by.

The sisters said they never sensed how hard things really were at the time, something they now credit entirely to how well their mother shielded them from it. Looking back with adult eyes, they say the realisation of just how much she sacrificed has left them deeply grateful.

Growing Up Between Two Worlds

Lailli and Alizey also spoke about the contrast of attending a school in an affluent part of London while their own home life was far more modest. Classmates were sometimes startled by how small their house was, and the sisters remember visiting friends’ homes complete with swimming pools, all while surrounded by peers carrying designer bags and watches. Rather than leaving them with a complex, the experience pushed them to want to earn things for themselves, which they say is part of why they started their blog and, eventually, their YouTube channel.

The twins pushed back on the idea that they’ve simply coasted off their mother’s success, insisting instead that their mother’s lesson that nice things have to be worked for is one they took seriously from a young age.
