Durga Puja Carnival Makes Comeback In Kolkata, Red Road Decked Up After 2 Years

The Durga Puja Carnival is all set to make a comeback in Kolkata after a two-year Pandemic break. The West Bengal government announced that the grand Durga Puja carnival in Kolkata and other districts will be held on October 8. The carnival at Kolkata’s Red Road will have around 90 puja committees participating in the event. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with dignitaries from foreign embassies, consulates, and UNESCO, will be present at the carnival.

About The Durga Puja Carnival In Kolkata

According to a Senior Government official, Earlier the carnival, which started in 2016, was held only in Kolkata. It could not be held in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. However, after the two-year break, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed that carnivals should be held in all districts.
“Some of the biggest community pujas which received awards from the state government and the district administrations would be participating in the events. The chief minister decided to hold puja carnivals across the state after the Durga Puja received a heritage tag from UNESCO this year,” added the official.

The Kolkata Police’s ‘Daredevil’ Force Will Kick-Start The Programme

The Kolkata Police’s ‘Daredevil’ force will start the carnival which will be followed by a dance performance by Donna Ganguly, wife of former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. However, Donna is reportedly infected with chikungunya. Hence, there is uncertainty about her performance.
The Carnival will be attended by officials from several embassies, and prominent industrialists, including members of the chambers of commerce. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with dignitaries from foreign embassies, consulates, and UNESCO, will also be present at the carnival.

We are sure the Durga Puja carnival in Kolkata and all other districts of West Bengal, will be a successful affair.
