Manipur’s Ukhrul witnessed an earthquake of 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale on Friday morning. As per the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake tremors were felt around 9:28 AM. Thankfully, there has been no damage or casualty reported because of the earthquake.

As per the X (formerly Twitter), handle of the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 on the Richter Scale hit Ukhrul, Manipur on Friday. According to a Mint report, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at Latitude 25.19 North, Longitude 94.31 East, at a depth of 30 kilometres.
As per the NCS’s tweet, the earthquake struck around 9:28 AM on Friday morning and was measured at 3.3 on the Richter magnitude scale. Thankfully, there has been no causality or property damage reported due to the earthquake so far. Further updates are awaited.
Just a few days back, on June 26, an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter Scale was recorded in Manipur as well. As per NCS, the epicentre of that earthquake was located in Bishnupur, Bankura at a depth of 25 km. There were no serious damages or casualties reported in that earthquake.
Earthquake Tremors Of 7.3 Magnitude Felt In Chile
While Manipur felt an earthquake on Friday morning, the United States Geological Survey has reported that Antofagasta in Chile felt earthquake tremors on Thursday. An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck Antofagasta, Chile on Thursday at 9:51 PM (local time).
As per the USGS, the tremor hit 265 kilometres east of the coastal city of Antofagasta at a depth of 128 km. There were no reports of damage or casualty so far. Also, no tsunami warning has been issued in the region.
Sitting on the Pacific Ocean’s ‘Ring of Fire,’ Chile is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries. It is a seismically turbulent area where many of Earth’s volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur. One of the worst earthquakes recorded in the country so far was at 9.5 magnitude. It happened in 1960 in the city of Valdivia.
