Jammu and Kashmir is known for its pleasant weather, magnificent surroundings, and alluring natural beauty. Waking up to the natural aura of Gulmarg that too of a weekend seems like such a beautiful experience. But Saturday morning did not start on a good note in Gulmarg. This town in Jammu and Kashmir experienced an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude. Here are all the details of this unexpected natural disaster.

Gulmarg Was Hit By An Earthquake At 8:36 AM

National Center for Seismology (@NCS_Earthquake) took to the social media platform ‘X’ to share necessary details about the earthquake jolting the town on Saturday morning.

  • According to the information provided by the National Center for Seismology (@NCS_Earthquake), the quake occurred north-northwest of Gulmarg.
  • The agency also stated that it was around 8:36 AM on Saturday morning when the natural disaster jolted the hilly town in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The epicentre of the earthquake was reported at 35.46 Latitude, 73.32 Longitude, and 129 km deep below the earth’s surface.

Following the earthquake, there have been no reports of any casualties. In fact, we have not come across news and reports of damages or destruction of properties yet.

Different Parts Of Jammu & Kashmir Are Experiencing Such Disasters Since Some Time

Several earthquakes have been reported in J&K in the past 2-3 months. Officials stated that a total of 12 quakes hit in different locations there from June 2023, according to a report by India Today. These 12 hits jolted different places at different intensities.  Back on 13 June this year, the Doda district experienced an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude. The consequences were quite severe with cracks and small damages in properties. This district once again got hit by a quake on 10 July. It was of 4.9 magnitude.

An Earthquake Has Been Reported In Nicobar Island

An earthquake of 4.4 magnitude jolted Nicobar Island at 12:16 PM on Saturday. The epicentre of this quake was 8.09 Latitude, 95.38 Longitude, and 10 km deep, as stated by National Center for Seismology (@NCS_Earthquake) on the social media platform ‘X’.
