Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has recently expanded its holiday homes policy, now encompassing farmhouses. This policy change permits farmhouse proprietors to secure licenses for converting their properties into holiday homes. The objective behind this revision is twofold. It will help broaden the spectrum of available accommodations in the emirate. Also, it will further unlock new economic prospects for farm proprietors.

DCT Abu Dhabi’s updated holiday homes policy encompasses farm stays, caravans, and RVs. This adjustment allows landlords and owners of residential units to acquire multiple holiday home licenses for various units. Notably, this presents an attractive opportunity for investors and property management firms.

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, DCT Abu Dhabi’s Director-General for Tourism has provided his statement in a press release. He has emphasised that broadening Abu Dhabi’s holiday homes policy to include farmhouses will enhance both the emirate’s hospitality and agri-tourism sectors. He stated that with the emirate’s flourishing tourism, offering visitors unique and sustainable experiences that reflect its rich heritage and renowned Emirati hospitality is crucial.

DCT Abu Dhabi Is Supporting This Initiative

DCT Abu Dhabi is actively supporting farmhouse owners in registering their properties. This includes arranging sessions to navigate the licensing system. It also involves explaining the requirements. Moreover, a comprehensive guidance manual is accessible on the official DCT Abu Dhabi website. Farmhouse proprietors have a grace period of six months to initiate the licensing procedure for their properties. It is intended to facilitate a smooth transition and prevent any potential penalties.

DCT Abu Dhabi will introduce an all-encompassing policy framework to license and promote farmhouse tourism activities. This demonstrates an unwavering commitment to developing diverse and enriching experiences for all emirate visitors. Within this framework, farm owners will be encouraged to create and endorse Emirati-led, agri-tourism experiences.
