Egypt is quite known for being home to many archaeological sites. And among all the places in this country, Abydos is known as a popular archaeological site. In an excavation conducted very recently, the officials discovered a lot of ancient findings. On Saturday, the antiquities officials shared that an ancient excavation led to the discovery of about 2,000 mummified ram heads, according to a Hindustan Times report. This excavation also led to uncovering more discoveries. Read on to know all about it.

Excavation In Abydos Resulted In Finding A Huge Menageries Of Animals

The archaeologist Nina Willburger took to her Twitter account to share some glimpses of the findings of the ancient exhibition. From mummified ram heads to cows, dogs, and more, the discoveries are huge. Take a look at the snippets here.

The temple of Ramses II in Abydos was the venue of this excavation. It was conducted by an American mission from New York University. To know more about the Study of the Ancient World, this research was conducted. Archaeologists uncovered a lot of things from the Ptolemaic period. Here are some more sneak peeks of the uncovering of ancient proofs.

All Of These Were Unearthed In These Excavations

Not only about 2,000 mummified ram heads from the Ptolemaic period were found, but the archaeologists also unearthed mummified structures of animals such as cows, dogs, ewes, gazelles, mongooses, and wild goats. It is being said that these animals were actually offered to Ramses II. Another very significant discovery of these excavations is the palatial structure made of thick walls. The walls have a thickness of about 5 metres. The team also found remains of ancient trees, papyri, leather garments, shoes, and statues.

The tourism and antiquities ministry stated that these findings are from the time at around a millennium after the death of Ramses II. These findings of the ancient mummified animals can turn out to be very helpful to know about the bygone time, even till the Ptolemaic period. It is said that the Ptolemaic period continued for around 300 years. The time was the Ptolemaic period till Rome’s rule began in 30 B.C.
