China Has A Beer Museum With More Bottles Than You Can Count!

Museums usually ask visitors to slow down and savour! This one practically dares them to look up, pull out a camera, order another drink, and stay longer. In the middle of Nanjing’s Jianye District in China, inside the busy Wuyue Plaza, sits the NIUBEER World Craft Beer Museum, a place that has exploded across social media not because it preserves history quietly, but because it turns beer culture into spectacle. 

China’s Massive Beer Museum Has 10,000+ Craft Beer Varieties

One video is enough to understand why the internet cannot stop talking about this particular museum in China. It has towering golden shelves rising several storeys high, and endless rows of illuminated bottles wrap around the room like glowing architecture. The ceiling reflects the entire display back onto itself, creating the dizzying illusion that the museum never actually ends.

At first glance, it feels more like stepping into a scene from Blade Runner. The scale alone is difficult to process. The venue reportedly houses between 10,000 and 11,000 beer varieties sourced from more than 100 countries, making it one of the largest craft beer collections ever assembled under one roof. Belgian monastery ales sit alongside Japanese craft labels, American IPAs, German wheat beers, Chinese microbrews, and rare imported bottles that most casual drinkers would never normally come across.

But what makes NIUBEER interesting is that it does not treat beer as a product; it treats it as the main character and the showstopper!

NIUBEER In Nanjing Is A Beer Wonderland!

Most museums are built around silence and distance. Here, the philosophy is the opposite. Visitors are encouraged to wander with drinks in hand, move between tasting counters, photograph the installations, and experience the collection socially rather than academically. That shift says a lot about where modern travel culture is heading.

Every corridor here appears designed innovatively by a patron who definitely loved beer more than a healthy amount! The towering “beer wall” has become its defining attraction online, especially among travel creators who describe the venue as “a museum you can get drunk in.”

Even the name reflects that playful energy. In Chinese slang, “niu” loosely translates to something impressive, cool, or extraordinary, which is exactly the image the museum leans into.

There is another layer to the story too! China’s craft beer industry has expanded rapidly over the last decade, particularly in cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Nanjing, where younger consumers are increasingly drawn toward experimental brews, premium nightlife experiences, and social dining culture. NIUBEER feels like the physical manifestation of that shift! 

The experience is also surprisingly accessible for something that looks so extravagant. Reports suggest visitors can explore the venue either free of cost or through tasting packages that range roughly between 100 and 200 RMB (₹1,414 – ₹2,829) per person, while group booth experiences can go higher depending on the selection and seating.

And frankly, that might explain the museum’s viral success better than anything else.
