In a recent update, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari spoke about proposed welfare and governance measures. From fish and rice meals to financial support for women and liquor shop restrictions, several new initiatives were announced. Read to know!

West Bengal Chief Minister Introduces New Initiatives

In the latest announcement, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, proposed welfare scheme called “Annapurna Yojana” was shared. As per The Times of India, under this plan, eligible women will receive ₹3,000 every month as financial support. It was also mentioned that application forms for the scheme will start being issued from May 27.

A low-cost food programme was also announced. Under this plan, fish and rice meals will be served at around 400 canteens across the region. These meals will be available twice a week at a subsidised price of just ₹5, making it highly affordable for people.

Where Will Liquor Outlets Not Be Allowed?

During the recent update, the CM also talked about the liquor restrictions. The Times of India reported that it was mentioned that liquor outlets will not be allowed within a one-kilometre radius of schools, colleges, and places of worship. The idea is to keep such shops away from sensitive public areas. 

There will now be a separate AYUSH department. This new department will be split from the health department so it can focus more on traditional systems of medicine in a better way. Also, “detect, delete and deport” was mentioned means the government plans to find people who are staying illegally, remove their names from official records, and send them back to their home country.
