It is already a popular tourist destination yet the footfalls will increase massively. Every city or destination is bound to have some unique pieces that are deemed as souvenirs. Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram is gearing up for Ram Mandir while vendors and shops are stocking up of Ayodhya-related souvenirs you can take home with you.

1. Sandalwood 

Sandalwood sticks or chandan is a piece of wood from the trunk of a sandalwood tree which is considered a sacred thing by Hindus. Ayodhya has an abundance of Sandalwood and it is one of the most bought souvenirs from here. Here you will come across sandalwood pastes like Mailkota, Shri Chandan, Ramraj, Jankiraj, and Gopiraj chandans. You can find it near the lanes of the Saryu River, which is quite easy to navigate and starts at ₹200/kg.

2. Carved Marble Idols

Ayodhya has many temples and you will find many idols of gods and goddesses like Ram and Sita to take home to your temples. They come in various sizes and can be made out of wood or marble. These idols showcase the intricate skills of the craftsmen and you will be in awe. People take pride in buying idols from Ayodhya, the land of Ram. you can find idols at Ayodhya Market.

4. Maharaja Chandan

This one needs a special mention because it is a sandalwood paste that is prepared locally in Ayodhya. Hence it is another souvenir from Ayodhya you can take home. The main ingredients are turmeric and sandalwood among other secrets ones. It is used as a tilak in temples and comes in white, yellow, red, and brown. You will easily get your hands on this at lanes near Ram Ki Paidi, Ram Janmabhoomi or Hanumangarhi temple.

5. Religious Artefacts

Religious Artefacts consist of diyas, puja plates, prayer beads, and more. Ayodhya is full of these things which are quite easy to gift as souvenirs to your friends and family. You can find these in any lane near all the temples or Hanuman Market.

6. Handcrafted Wooden Toys

Have a bunch of kids at your home, whether they are your nieces or nephews, toys are always a good souvenir. Markets of Ayodhya also specialise in handcrafted wooden toys and you can find them at Hanuman Market. Now you will even find small detailed replicas of Ram Mandir!
