The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had called a meeting with the top flight caterers and airlines to improve and fortify food safety regulations. The authority claims that the purpose of the earlier discussion was to pinpoint the areas that needed improvement and the gaps in the current protocol. This will facilitate the guests’ access to excellent in-flight cuisine.

The absence of prior information regarding the passengers’ dietary preferences was a prevalent worry during the meeting. The FSSAI addressed the matter by stating that menu labelling is crucial. “This directive aims to improve transparency by providing passengers with detailed information about the nature, origin and manufacturing-related details of the food served during flights,” according to an official release. Additionally, the significance of menu labelling as an effective means of educating passengers about the ingredients of the food being provided so they can make informed decisions. It was also emphasised how important the business is to guarantee the security and happiness of passengers.

Passenger complaints about food safety and the significance of providing catering personnel with specialised training programmes were among the issues brought up during the discussion. There is a need for specialised training programmes for catering staff to ensure a comprehensive understanding of food safety and hygiene practices. This action is consistent with FSSAI’s mission to guarantee the highest standards of food safety and sanitation in the airline catering sector.

There are particular difficulties for food safety in the aviation environment. Food quality can be impacted by changes in air pressure and altitude. This can result in changed textures, flavours, and even possible spoiling.

Ensuring food safety during flight is just as important. When it comes to making sure that meals are handled and served in compliance with established safety regulations. To guarantee compliance with aviation standards, these facilities need to employ strong quality control methods. Additionally, it involves following stringent hygiene practices and undergoing routine inspections.

Prioritising food safety on aeroplanes is a fundamental responsibility.
