Ghaziabad Woman Gets Non Veg Pizza Instead Of Veg; Seeks ₹1 Crore Compensation

In the advent of online food deliveries, there have been also cases of late deliveries and even mistaken orders. On similar lines, a woman from Ghaziabad received a non-vegetarian pizza instead of a vegetarian one from an American restaurant. The pure vegetarian woman went to the consumer court demanding ₹1 crore in compensation as she will have to undergo expensive rituals to undo the damage caused. Here’s what you must know.

Pure Vegetarian Woman From Ghaziabad Gets Non-Veg Pizza By Mistake

Deepali Tyagi placed an order for a vegetarian pizza from an American pizza outlet in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on March 21, 2019. She ordered this dish after the family celebrated Holi that day. The pizza was delivered late, and the hungry woman took a bite of pizza without noticing too much. That’s when she bit into a piece of meat, which she earlier thought was mushroom. On realising the restaurant delivered a non-veg pizza instead of veg, she immediately called customer care and raised a complaint about their negligence in delivering a non-veg pizza into the house of pure vegetarians.

Takes Issue To Consumer Court & Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation

The restaurant in turn attempted to offer her pizzas free of cost to make up for this mistake. But Deepali Tyagi felt they were too casual about this whole incident and felt that it was no less than an insult to her social and financial status. So, asked the consumer court to look into the matter. And she sought compensation of ₹1 crore from the pizza outlet as the company hurt her religious beliefs and practices, and caused a permanent mental agony. Deepali also added that she will have to undergo expensive rituals to undo the damage caused.

In her petition, Deepali stated that she remains a pure vegetarian due to her “religious beliefs, teachings, family traditions, own conscience, and her best choice”.  According to ANI, the district consumer redressal commission has asked the pizza restaurant to file a reply in this regard.
