Sustainable tourism is gaining momentum in recent times. Many people are opting for eco-friendly travel options that consider measures like waste reduction, energy management and water conservation. Google has launched a special badge to make hotel searches easier for these eco-conscious travellers. Google is now adding a green eco-certified badge to hotels that follow environment-friendly and sustainable measures. But what does this eco-certified badge exactly mean? It indicates that top organisations like Earthcheck and Greenkey have certified them for meeting standards of high sustainability.
Google Can Now Help You Identify Eco-Friendly Hotels
Climate change is a major concern now, which makes sustainable practices the need of the hour. Thus, many people are becoming environmentally conscious and are trying to adopt eco-friendly measures even while on a trip. The eco-certified badge of Google will help these travellers identify the right hotel. ITC Windsor in Bangalore has become the world’s first hotel to get LEED Zero Carbon Certification. Other hotels that have received sustainability certifications are ITC Maratha, Hilton Jaipur, Hilton Goa, Conrad Pune and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Gurgaon – New Delhi NCR, among others.

How Can Hotels Apply For This Badge?
To get this badge on Google, hotel owners can sign in to Google My Business and add the required attributes. A group of researchers, designers and engineers focused on sustainable travel are working around this badge. While we don’t know anything yet about whether the badge will improve Google ranking of the hotels or not, but it will definitely inspire a larger number of travellers to make sustainable choices.
