Hometown Of Bandit Veerappan

The Jeep safari is a huge attraction because, unlike other evergreen forests, this safari takes you through a dry deciduous forest. You will spot many birds like babblers, warblers, kingfishers, swifts, imperial pigeons, white naped tit, European bee eaters, and many more. There is also a memorial named after P Srinivas, a forest officer who was part of the team that captured Veerappan.

The Gopinatham Mystery Trails are part of government controlled jungle lodges and resorts. They offer camps, lodges, and resorts in many beautiful sites in Karnataka. Talking about the history of Gopinatham, the village was the birthplace of a known bandit, Veerappan. He killed thousands of people, elephants and was a smuggler of sandalwood. The hometown of this bandit is still known because of the history it beholds.

In 2004, after the death of the bandit, the Karnataka Forest Department opened some trekking trails in this forest area.
