Gurugram: Heavy Rainfall Triggers Waterlogging On Roads; Traffic Congestion Reported In The City

Most places in India have been receiving continuous rainfall for the past few weeks. Monsoon season impacted the scorching summer temperatures significantly and made the weather pleasant and bearable. Though we are enjoying the dip in mercury and breezy atmosphere, the incessant showers are turning out to be a daily obstacle. Gurugram received heavy rainfall on Thursday morning and it triggered major issues for commuters. With waterlogging all around, stepping outside is the hardest thing to do presently.

It rained intensely in Gurigram for about three hours in the morning. Massive downpours triggered waterlogging in many areas leading to several issues for residents. Traffic snarls were reported in different places causing a distressing situation for people leaving their houses for school, college, and work in the morning.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Narsinghpur stretch of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Basai, and Golf Course Extension Road particularly witnessed terrible traffic congestion on Thursday. Vehicles were stranded and unable to move forward for a long time while travelling to Delhi and Sohna Road from National Highway 48.

One of the most affected roads was National Highway 48. The section between Kherki Daula and Rajeev Chowk on this highway was badly waterlogged till rainwater reached knee level. Due to flooded conditions and knee-deep water, it was practically impossible to drive vehicles at the usual speed. Many people faced major delays due to these issues. Unfortunately, a couple of vehicles failed to operate while stranded in the traffic jam.

While multiple reports stated heavy rainfall led to waterlogged roads and areas in Gurugram, several social media users pointed out that roads were crammed with vehicles even with very less showers in the past some time. Many raised concerns about present road and infrastructure conditions and how waterlogging has become a common problem.

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority officials shared that about five water pumps have been positioned at Narsinghpur to resolve the waterlogging issues.
