Hampi: For The First Time, Tourists Can Visit Cafes & Restrooms Within The Bounds Of The Historical City

For long, the historical bounds of Hampi were devoid of cafes, restaurants and tourist facilities. Maintaining the sanctity of the ruins of the majestic Vijayanagara Empire came at a cost of convenience to tourists. Visitors often had no choice but to head to eateries and visit washrooms located at quite a distance from the historical bounds of the city. Well, this is about to change. For the first time in years, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Hampi Circle has set up a cafeteria service and restroom for visitors in Hampi.

According to a story by The Indian Express, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Hampi Circle, now offers restroom and cafe services within the historical bounds of Hampi. And that’s not all, in the near future, tourists can also expect a full-fledged restaurant and a lodging facility to come up as well.

When it comes to the cafes, these will be located at two spots — one near Vijaya Vittala temple premises and the other near Ugra Narasimha Temple. At the moment, tourists head to a small store helmed by ASI to grab cups of tea, coffee, tender coconut water and some light snacks. But very soon, ASI plans to offer a few rooms for temporary lodging facilities for visitors.

A senior ASI official threw more light on this to The New Indian Express. He stated that ASI has opened up two cafes in Hamp for tourists. And more such outlets will open up across the historical city soon. The price for a cup of tea or coffee ranges between ₹10 to ₹20. For snacks, tourists can gorge on puffs and samosas. They can also buy cold drinks and water bottles to beat the dry heat, which Hampi is infamous for due to the widespread presence of granite boulders.

When it comes to the temporary lodging facilities, visitors to Hampi can expect clean beds, and hygienic toilets among other services. The ASI buildings will be constructed in Hampi architectural style to let tourists immerse themselves in the rich history of the space. Restaurants will also be opened with a telos to feed visitors hygienic and freshly prepared food.

So, travel enthusiasts, the next time you visit Hampi, you can comfortably visit clean restrooms and grab a quick bite at cafes run by ASI.
