Chef Avinash Martins, the owner of Cavatina, a dining room in Goa, recently waxed lyrical about the old-time cafes of Goa. In quite a lengthy post on Instagram, he shared photos of an old-time Goan cafe in Cuncolim Bazaar and wondered whether such cafes were fading away.

He spoke of how when he was a kid, getting bhaji and buns was part of a routine that he very much looked forward to. He painted a vivid nostalgic picture of Vividh Bharati music playing in the background while the scent of tempered potato bhaji and Watana Rassa titillated his senses.

He ended the reflective piece by wondering whether the western-styled cafes serving waffles and pancakes have replaced this bhaji-bun combo serving cafes. Whether the sweetness of Sheera was replaced by that of chocolate doughnuts.

Many people in the comment section had strong reactions to the sentimental post. Many responded with memories of their own and reflected upon the disappearances of it. It is safe to say that these establishments have left an indelible mark on the minds of people who grew up around them.
