Lanzarote, a Spanish archipelago, is known for its strange volcanic vistas, lunar-like terrain, and unearthly beauty. Furthermore, its distinctive geography, formed by centuries of volcanic activity, attracts visitors looking for something unusual. While there are other ways to immerse yourself in the island’s natural beauty, dining at El Diablo stands out.

El Diablo means “The Devil” in Spanish. This restaurant in Timanfaya National Park provides guests with an unforgettable dining experience surrounded by volcanic craters and harsh landscapes. What distinguishes El Diablo from other restaurants is its cooking method. El Diablo cooks in volcanic heat, rather than typical stoves and ovens. The restaurant is located on a dormant volcano, with its kitchen overlooking a scorching pit where temperatures can exceed 400°C (750°F). The chef uses this natural heat to cook a variety of delicacies, including exquisite meats and delectable veggies.

Surprisingly, there are other uses for the Canary Islands’ volcanoes, such as a volcanic vineyard.

Ever since its last eruption in 1824, this dormant volcano has been peacefully bubbling beneath the surface. However, the short bursts of heat or hot vapour are sufficient to cook delicious food, drawing large crowds of tourists to the restaurant.  The allure of volcano cooking lies not only in the visual spectacle but also in the unique flavours imparted to the dishes. Over the top of the volcano’s opening, the restaurant constructed a large grill that is situated roughly six feet above the lava. The restaurant was designed to surround the grill because of the distance, which permits the 750°C lava to produce flawlessly grilled steaks.

El Diablo’s menu combines traditional Canarian cuisine with foreign flavours, all cooked in volcanic heat. These delightful meals are an excellent introduction to the volcanic gastronomy that awaits you. For the main course, the grilled meats take the spotlight. Furthermore, vegetarians and vegans are not excluded from this feast. El Diablo serves grilled vegetables and salad.

Moreover, the restaurant boasts an incredible, surreal panoramic view of Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote, Martian environment of red sands and volcanic rock, in addition to its spectacular culinary techniques.

So, are you excited to visit El Diablo in Spain?
