Heavy Snowfall Causes Avalanche Threat In J&K, Ladakh, Uttarakhand And Himachal Pradesh Today

Winter is here. And Kashmir and North India are suffering the brunt of this weather, facing one of the harshest winters ever. Extreme weather conditions, thick blankets of snow covering regions and even rainfalls are some of the issues that North India is facing. During the past 24 hours, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir have been experiencing snowfall and moderate to heavy rainfall. Himachal Pradesh, on the other hand, faced dry weather and scattered activities. And Uttarakhand is witnessing cloudy sky conditions. Weathermen have reported that heavy snowfall will likely cause an avalanche threat in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh today.

What’s In It?

Reports suggest that the condition in these regions in North India will be at its peak today. In fact, northern hills might also receive the heaviest rainfall and snowfall. In parts of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and snowfall is predicted within the next 24 hours. Uttarakhand will also observe snowfall and rainfall and its intensity will gradually be on the rise from tonight.

Last week’s heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, has led to the blockage of 629 roads including five national highways during the last week. And the will expectedly worsen further. Landslides and mudslides too might occur in places at avalanche-prone areas which might also lead to significant damages. So residents are advised to keep themselves safe and take precautionary measures.
