Follow these steps to obtain your driving license in Abu Dhabi

  1. Opening a traffic file in one of the registered driving centres in the related emirate
  2. Conducting an eye test-cost:Dh100
  3. Completing all required driving classes-Cost: Dh830
  4. Passing all tests, theory and practical, set by the related traffic department-Cost: Dh200
  5. Request a training permit-Cost:Dh100
  6. Completing at least six hours of outside road instruction-Cost:Dh2000
  7. Acquire the driving license-Cost:Dh315

Documents Mandatory for opening a traffic file includes:

  1. Copy of passport and residence visa page
  2. Copy and original emirates ID card
  3. 2 photographs
  4. Eye test report
  5. No objection letter from the sponsor

Validity Of License

For residents, GCC nationals, and other countries, a new driver’s license is effective for two years. When you update your driver’s license, it will have a 10-year validity period for nationals of the UAE. GCC can enjoy a 5-year validity period for residents.

Residents can soon exchange UAE driving license for a British version. Wondering how? Well, motorists who pass their driving test in the UAE can now exchange their license for a British one. Per the new rules, motorists who own a UAE driving license need not repeat their test if they move to the UK. Isn’t that awesome?
