H&M Collaborates With Sabyasachi To Launch First Indian Designer Collection This April

When it comes to our favourite shopping destination, it has got to be Hennes and Mauritz H&M. The Swedish fast-fashion retailer has taken India by storm. The sea long queue outside H&M’s first Indian outlet in South Delhi in 2015 was just a glimpse into its immense popularity. And now H&M fans in India have another reason to squeal with joy. H&M will now collaborate with renowned Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee to launch its first Indian designer collection this April. Sabyasachi Mukherjee under his label Sabyasachi is known for the use of Indian textiles in the construction of modern silhouettes. H&M has announced that they will be launching the collaboration themed ‘Wanderlust’ presenting handcrafted eclectic travel pieces on 16th April 2020.

What’s In It?

Ella Soccorsi, a concept designer at collaborations and special collections at H&M stated that at H&M they’re thrilled to announce their collaboration with the iconic designer Sabyasachi, who is known for his dynamic use of indigenous crafts and textiles. She further elaborated that it’s a language so stunning that it permanently altered fashion and the design landscape of the country. H&M entered India in 2015 and reported sales of 1,108.2 crores in the year ending 30th November 2018. It currently has 46 stores across India. H&M recently collaborated with iconic fashion designer Giambattista Valli and it was a successful collaboration. Sabyasachi too has collaborated with fellow designers in the past.

The Sabyasachi x H&M collection will present both apparel and accessories for men and women. The collection will be available in all H&M outlets across India as well as specific H&M flagships stores across the world. You can also find it online on HM.com and Myntra. Sabyasachi stated that he is very happy to announce his collaboration with H&M as it gives him and his team an opportunity to spread the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience in not only India but also worldwide.  The designer further added that having done couture for the majority of his career, he is excited to bring that finesse of craft to ‘ready-to-wear’ and create whimsical and fluid silhouettes that will bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life. Well, we can’t wait to see what this collaboration has in store for us.
